Spurs emerged as victors in a mini-London derby to officially open its new home grounds on Wednesday.

History was made on Wednesday night as Tottenham Hotspur's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace became the club's first-ever competitive match inside their new stadium. The euphoria was even maximized when forward Heung-min Son opened the scoring to mark the first-ever goal scored inside the 62,062-seater arena.

Fans of the White Lilies waved goodbye to Wembley - the club's makeshift home grounds - with a 1-1 draw against Arsenal back in March. After months of waiting for the new stadium to be ready, the spectators were rewarded with early entry as the London club arranged for the gates to be opened three hours before kick-off.

This offered them the opportunity to tour the new facility which reportedly has a 65-metre bar in it. An inaugural ceremony preceded the kick-off of the midweek encounter to mark the historic night although the real party atmosphere came into being when Heung-min Son broke the deadlock in the 55th minute.

The South Korean attacker saw a long range effort destined for goal deflect to beat Palace's Vicente Giaita in goal. 10 minutes from full time, his side's lead was doubled by Christian Eriksen with the assist coming from Harry Kane. The night's win over Crystal Palace at the magnificent £1 billion arena brought an end to Spurs' winless in their last five league games – the club's worst-ever record under Mauricio Pochettino.

The win consolidated Tottenham's status as occupant of third position on the Premier League log with both Chelsea and Arsenal closing in. The club's second test at the new stadium will be against Manchester City in a UEFA Champions League quarter final clash.
