Current form: Burnley vs Chelsea
Last season, Burnley famously shocked Chelsea by beating them 3-2 on matchday one at Stamford Bridge. The two sides are now set to renew acquaintances at Turf Moor and the hosts come into this game having being humiliated 5-0 by Manchester City. That result was a major blow, as it ended a three game unbeaten run for Sean Dyche's men.
Should Maurizio Sarri avoid a loss to Burnley, he will make history. The Italian tactician could become the first Chelsea manager to remain unbeaten after ten opening games in charge of the club and his team come into this game having earned a well-deserved 3-1 win over Eastern European outfit BATE in the Europa League. As a result, Chelsea have picked up nine points so far from their debut Europa League campaign and are still unbeaten in the Premier League, with six wins and three draws from their first nine games.
Their recent game, however, needed a late goal from Ross Barkley to avoid what would have been a 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, but nonetheless, given their strong record against Burnley - with the exception of that surprise defeat last season - the Blues are expected to come out on top in Sunday's fixture.
Current position: Burnley vs Chelsea
As of now, Chelsea sit in third spot, just two points behind first-placed Manchester City and Liverpool, who occupy second spot based on goal difference. A win here, of course, could see the Blues move to the top of the table depending on what happens in Manchester City's and Liverpool's matches, but given that the Reds are facing struggling side Cardiff, it is not too likely that Jurgen Klopp's men will drop points there. However, City aren't in action until Monday against Tottenham, so at the very least, Chelsea could move into second spot temporarily until then.
Burnley, meanwhile, are in 13th place and are relatively comfortable, albeit sit just a few points above the drop zone. That means a few more bad results could see them slide right into danger, and the hosts will hope that their recent loss is not the start of something troubling.
Here is how the two sides rank in the table ahead of Sunday's meeting.
