Match facts

  • This will be the fourth meeting between Mexico and Iceland.

  • Mexico defeated Iceland in their most recent game, a friendly clash celebrated on February 2017.

  • This will be the second World Cup warmup match between these teams. Back in 2010, El Tri and the Vikingar met in Charlotte, North Carolina. That game ended in a goalless draw.

Team news

Mexico's coach Juan Carlos Osorio still thinks that his rotations policy will work for El Tri, and he will use this game to put an end to his doubts on who should he name in hi 23-man squad for the World Cup. For this game, the green-and-white side will not feature neither one of the Dos Santos brothers, as they were dropped from the team due to their respective injuries.

On the other side of the pitch, coach Helmir Hallgrimsson will have to find an alternative to replace Gylfi Sigurdsson. The midfielder will not be available due to a knee problem, and Icelandic fans are a bit nervous due to their star's fitness level, since he could end up missing the 2018 World Cup. The rest of the team will be the one that stole the hearts of all fans in the 2016 UEFA Euro.
