Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema were booed by Real Madrid fans at the Santiago Bernabeu last weekend. Here's why:

Despite being 32-year-old, Cristiano Ronaldo is still one of the most deadly forwards in the history of football. But his recent form for Real Madrid has been a major point of concern for some of the club's fans, and the same case applies to his teammate Karim Benzema.

At this stage, CR7 has nine less goals than what he had last season, something that has contributed to Los Blanco's recent slump in their hunt for the league title. Despite bouncing back to secure a 2-1 win over Malaga last weekend, none of those goals were scored by either Ronaldo or Benzema - it was a brace from an unlikely player - Sergio Ramos (pictured below).

As a matter of fact, four of the club's last six goals have been scored by defenders and Ramos is the second-top scorer for the Santiago Bernabeu side with six goals in La Liga. It is for that reason that some fans of the Merengues booed the two forwards as they feel that they are not giving their all on the pitch this season. Spanish football expert Guillem Balague wrote on SkySports:

''Cristiano Ronaldo is struggling as he has been for the last year or so. At least he was hiding his lack of regular form behind goals, but now he hasn't scored in two and has nine less than last season at this stage. He was finding it difficult being a No 9 with his back to goal and waiting for crosses so Zinedine Zidane decided to put him on the wing as he was before.

''But now he cannot beat defenders, so eventually during the game he ended up as another striker with Benzema, which I think is his role for the future and one he has to get used to. He is more than capable of being the best 'striker' in the world that way.

''Meanwhile, the Real fans decided to whistle Benzema and Ronaldo as they feel they are not pulling their weight as they should.''

This season so far, the ex-Man Utd man has 12 league goals in 14 appearances for the European champions. On the other hand, Benzema has five goals in 14 league appearances.
