River dominated the game but their lack of accuracy forced them to suffer until the last minute. Jonathan Maidana was the unexpected scorer of the winning goal early in the second half.
River failed to celebrate a single victory without Matias Almeyda in the midfield. His return granted River a decisive victory.

J J Lopez's Millonarios might have not played at their best but made enough merits to defeat Claudio Borghi's Boca Juniors in a game that offered little excitement to the crowds. Juan Roman Riquelme finished the first half struggling with injuries, making room for Cristian Chavez, who could do nothing to sharpen Boca offense.

River attackers created many opportunities to score but Boca goalkeeper Javier Garcia's excellent form denied their every attempt. Martin Palermo was unable to score his tenth goal in a Superclasico.

Former Boca player Jonathan Maidana score the winning goal with a powerful header that beat the star of the match, Javier Garcia.

Claudio Borghi's time as Boca head coach might be running out. Lopez had the best possible welcome at the Monumental. Perhaps his intership will last longer than expected.

Clemente Rodriguez shot first on the second minute as he tried to catch Juan Pablo Carrizo off guard. Boca relied on deep crosses to reach Martin Palermo and lead the offense. Jesus Mendez was the main driver while Juan Roman Riquelme was a shadow, allowing River to dominate the game firmly.

Mariano Pavone warned Boca goalkeeper Javier Garcia first, followed by Eric Lamela and Ariel Ortega in the first 20 minutes of the game.

Eric Lamela was the builder of a strong offense throughout the first 30 minutes of the game, associating with Roberto Pereyra and Ariel Ortega on the wings. Boca run out of ideas soon, as the wingers were unable to find Roman Riquelme, who asked for substitution on the 9th minute of the game but finally played the rest of the first half.

River confidence grew as the minutes went by and the wingers joined the attack. Paulo Ferrari missed two clear shots as he reached Garcia's goal on his own, but his shots went well wide time after time.

Walter Acevedo and Matias Almeyda were lions in the midfield and stopped Boca attackers from reaching Carrizo's goal. Ortega played a mediocre game but his contributions were nevertheless important for River to keep Boca under a constant threat.

The game changed dramatically as Jonathan Maidana opened the score on the 8th minute of the second half. Claudio Borghi was aware he needed to react to change the course of the game but neither Chavez, nor Pablo Mouche or Lucas Viatri could do anything to help boca outwit River at the Monumental.

After eight weeks River celebrated an important victory, decisive for the relegation fight. River new coach J J Lopez might have stroke a fatal blow to Claudio Borghi.
