Spain defender Gerard Pique has found himself in the middle of fresh controversy.

The Spain international was captured sticking out his middle finger when his country’s national anthem was being played ahead of their Euro 2016 Group D match against Croatia. Although his main intention is not yet clear, there are allegations on social media that he was showing the Spanish anthem the middle finger due to his strong affiliation with Catalonia.

Other reports also claim that he was showing the middle finger to his club rival Sergio Ramos, who was standing one place away from the 29-year-old Barcelona defender. Or was he simply cracking his fingers? Check out the photo below and be the judge:Gerard Pique sticks his middle finger as Spain's national anthem is being played

Spain lost the match 2-1 thanks to a defensive blunder in the first half that gave Nikola Kalinic the chance to score a Zlatan-like goal, and Ivan Perisic's late finish that sealed the three points for the Croatians. Despite the defeat, Spain have still qualified for the last round of 16 as second-placed finishers. Here are some reactions to the middle finger incident.
