Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes his side has what it takes to win the prestigious UEFA Champions League trophy this season.

Despite the poor display in the domestic league, the Portuguese tactician is optimistic that his men can go all the way to clinch the coveted European trophy. Chelsea are currently sitting at the 14th position in the Premier League with just two points above the relegation zone.

However, despite their poor performance locally, the Blues managed to dismiss FC Porto 2-0 on Wednesday to book a place in the last round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.

The Portuguese boss sounded bullish after dismissing his former side, which he helped win the Champions League in 2004. The well-travelled controversial manager also won the Champions League with Serie A giants Inter Milan in 2010 and will be looking to repeat the same with the Stamford Bridge side.

Mourinho, 52, is banking on the fact that his side are considered the underdogs in this competition due to their struggling form. Interestingly, when he won the Champions League with Porto and Milan, the two teams were the underdogs by then.

Speaking during a post-match news conference, he revealed:

"To win the Champions League, I think it's obvious that a team that is struggling so much like we are, is not a candidate to win it.’’

He added:

"In the Champions League, you have the best teams in Europe but when we won [it] with Porto in 2004 we were not candidates, when we won with Inter [Milan] in 2010 we were not candidates.’’
