The Brazilian joined the team on January 2007 after playing one year with Fluminense. With Casillas on his way out, Marcelo becomes the second most veteran player on the team.

Marcelo will continue with Real Madrid for the next five seasons after signing a contract extension with the club this morning in the Spanish capital. The 27-year-old player is currently the third most veteran footballer in the club and could even go up to number two when Iker Casillas leaves for Porto as the speculation rises.

The Brazilian left-back joined Los Merengues in 2007 after he only played one year with Fluminense in his homeland Brazil. It was on January 1st of that year that Marcelo travelled to Spain without ever looking back. Marcelo Vieira da Silva Junior has since then, become an iconic piece in Real Madrid's roster.

Marcelo has added two more seasons to his current contract

"Real Madrid C. F. have announced that Marcelo has renewed his contract, he will now remain at the club for the next five seasons until 30 June 2020," was what was read in the official statement released by Real.

He has made a total of 320 appearances for Los Blancos since his debut. He was joined by Florentino Perez this morning in a small event to announce his contract extension. This is the second contract extension of the week in Real Madrid, as Dani Carvajal also announced he will be staying with the club until 2020.

The team met for the first time with their new coach, Rafael Benitez, this Thursday and had their first practice earlier this Friday. Marcelo is expected to become the club's second captain once Casillas leaves for Porto most likely in the next hours or days.

Marcelo's family was there with him in that special day
