Both reported with their respective national teams for duty. Alaba might not come back at all this season.

While in Barcelona they have to worry about Lionel Messi’s situation, Pepe and David Alaba have been ruled out for Real Madrid and Bayern Munich respectively.

The Real Madrid defender suffered an injury in El Clasico. Despite initial signs of discomfort, he traveled for duty with Portugal. After being unable to play against Serbia, he was allowed to return to Madrid before the game against Cape Verde.

Upon arrival at Spain’s capital, he did not participate in the training sessions with the team. On Wednesday, the medical staff reported that he had suffered an injury in his right thigh. There is still no set timeframe for his recovery.

The club released the news via Twitter

Some reports suggest that he might miss La Liga games against Granada, Rayo Vallecano and Eibar. That should allow him to be ready for the UEFA Champions League games against Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals.

On the other hand, David Alaba has been ruled out for seven weeks with Bayern Munich due to a knee injury. The 22-year-old suffered the blow in a game with Austria against Bosnia Herzegovina when Ermin Bicakcic landed on his left knee.

As a result of that play, Alaba suffered a medial ligament tear. His club announced via Twitter how his recovery process would pan out. Alaba has not yet lost hopes of being back with the team by the end of the season.

“I want to be back for the season finale,” Alaba said. “I will recover now and give it full throttle in rehab.”

Alaba adds his name to a very concerning injured list for Pep Guardiola’s team. Franck Ribery, Thiago, Arjen Robben and Philipp Lahm are still recovering from their injuries.
