The new Red Devils boss has explained his reasons for his squad selection..including why some players have not featured much.

Although he was on the wish-list of many of Europe's biggest sides, Manchester United beat off the likes of cross-town rivals Manchester City on deadline day to secure the signature of Radamel Falcao.

The Colombian star missed out on the World Cup due to a bad knee injury sustained while with Ligue 1 side Monaco and as a result, his new employers had their concerns about his fitness.

Still, they went ahead with the loan arrangement in which the 28-year-old is now among the highest paid players at the club. However, he has yet to really find his footing in England and rumors are rife that the Red Devils may opt not to make his loan permanent at the end of this season.

Falcao has yet to publicly speak out about failing to secure a position in Louis Van Gaal's starting XI despite apparent having recovered from his latest injury setback, but that has not prevented the former Oranje boss from bluntly offering his opinion on the team's new signing.

"Falcao needs match fitness. He can only play for 20 minutes. It would be a better contribution if he played with the second team," he stated when asked about why the striker has not gotten much game time.

Not mincing his words, he also went on to add:

"I am not interested whether he is unhappy being on the bench. He has to follow my philosophy. I am here because of that."
