On September 4th, two European heavyweights starting new eras clash in a good warmup game for the Euro 2016 qualifiers next week.

After not making the round of 16 for the second World Cup in a row, and despite displaying a more offensive playing style, Italy will start a new era with Antonio Conte leading the Azzurri. The former Juventus coach won’t have Mario Balotelli showing his class on the pitch, but he is confident that he can build his team around experienced players such as Buffon and De Rossi and some newcomers such as Parolo or Zaza.

On the other hand, the Dutch team will have Guus Hiddink start a new term as their head coach. Replacing Louis Van Gaal, Hiddink’s goal will be at least matching his last performance in a World Cup, where he was defeated by Croatia in the third place match back in 1998. For this new beginning, Hiddink won’t count on Arjen Robben, probably the best player for The Netherlands during the past World Cup. Besides the Bayern Munich wingman, the Dutch will be missing striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Rafael Van der Vaart and Ron Vlaar, all coming down with injuries.

Let’s hope for a good clean match between two of Europe’s most respected teams that will start a new era with the best intentions and with their eyes set on the Euro 2016 qualifiers.
