Bad news for London sides Arsenal and Chelsea as German midfielder Sami Khedira looks set for Ligue 1

A new twist to the Sami Khedira transfer tug of war has emerged.

The German midfielder has been linked with two English Premier League clubs, Arsenal and Chelsea, with a move to the Emirates close to being wrapped up, as suggested by the latest transfer rumors.

Arsene Wenger is believed to be a huge admirer of the 27-year-old Real Madrid player, and is looking for a new holding midfielder to replace the aging Mikel Arteta, whilst Mourinho has an advantage over the Frenchman as he has previously coached the World Cup winner during the Portuguese boss' time at Santiago Bernabeu.

But now, according to BILD (per 101 Great Goals), a reliable source on German players, state that the former Stuttgart man may not land in England, but rather France as Los Blancos plan on using him in a player-plus-cash deal for Colombian ace James Rodriguez.

But now, as reported by BILD, Khedira could be used by Real Madrid in a player-plus-cash move for Colombian ace James Rodriguez

The Ligue 1 side want €85m for the World Cup Golden Boot winner, a player high up the Liga BBVA giants' transfer wishlist, but Les Merengues are "struggling" to come up with the funds, and are only ready to part with €75m to bring the 23-year-old to Madrid.

In the report, the 10-time Champions League winners initially intended on selling their Argentine ace Angel Di Maria to mega-rice club Paris Saint-Germain for a €60m fee in order to raise substantial fund for the former Porto superstar, but have seen the plan scuppered by UEFA's Financial Fair Play guidelines.

With James Rodriguez inches away from sealing his Real Madrid move, Sami Khedira's future looks to be in Ligue 1, not in England's captial.
