Luis Suarez suffered a hit in his last Premier League game and was resting ever since. Yesterday however, the 27-year-old felt a pain during training and a magnetic resonance showed some issues in his meniscus.

The Uruguayan required an immediate knee surgery that worried his family, Liverpool fans and Uruguay supporters. the Uruguay football federation announced today:

"He is not ruled out of World Cup play."

The center-forward underwent immediate surgery, which went well according to the striker’s sister; she stated:

“The operation is complete and thank God everything turned out well, it wasn't so bad what Luis had.”

Roberto Pastoriza, national teams secretary with the Uruguay FA is optimistic about Suarez’s ability to be ready when the World Cup starts in less than a month. Pastoriza revealed:

“According to the information I have received a short while ago, they are optimistic that he can make the World Cup.”

Regardless of whether Liverpool’s player will be fit for the World Cup, he will not be able to play Uruguay’s scheduled games, which would not be ideal for any player, especially not when the toughest tournament in the world is less than a month away.
