Upon his arrival at Buenos Aires, Lionel Messi released some provoking remarks, especially towards his Spanish supporters. This was particularly worrying in light of the striker's brand new deal worth €20M a year.

When questioned about his “disappointing” season, the Argentinian replied:

“A lot of the time it’s been the other way around, you know, that it wasn’t happening for me with the Seleccion, and then it did for Barcelona, so hopefully it works like that this time.”

The Blaugrana striker is the only player to win 4 Balon d'Ors

Further, with regards to his relationship with the Barca supporters, the striker stated:

“They’ve supportedwhen there were doubts about my future, but sometimes you hear murmurs when you’re on the pitch, that’s why I’m saying: If I have to leave, no problem. But Barcelona is still my home.”

The 4-times Balon d’Or winner seemed a bit annoyed throughout the season, but his grin at the Ezeiza airport proved that the talented player was immediately reinvigorated as soon as he landed home.

The fans disappointment, though understandable, is misplaced at best. Messi did not have the continuity he is used to and could not get into his usual groove. Moreover, la Pulga proved himself more than sufficiently in every single campaign before this last one and certainly deserves more trust and respect by his supporters.

How can anyone doubt a player who won this much?
