About Turkish Cup

The Türkiye Kupasi, or Turkish Cup in English, is a football cup competition run by the Turkish Football Federation. The competition includes teams from the Turkish football league system and from the Turkish Regional Amateur League.

The competition is open to change regarding the number of teams that are involved. The TFF is also keen on changing the tournament’s format, which has included one-leg ties, two-legged ties, a group stage to determine semi-finalists, and the current two-legged format that applies from the Fifth round all the way to the final.

The top-ranked Süper Lig teams enter the competition until the fifth round, so they can compete in European tournaments before their involvement in this competition. A record 159 teams participated in the 2017-18 edition.
The winner of this competition is awarded a spot in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League along with a hefty bonus. The 2017-18 season saw Akhisarspor claiming the title for the first time after their 3-2 win against Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the final.

The 2018-19 Turkish Cup starts on August 28, 2018. The tournament final is yet to be scheduled since the TFF usually waits to see if any of the teams involved in the final match are still playing in European competitions.

Did you know? Galatasaray is the most-winning team in this competition. The Lions have 17 titles to their name, along with 5 second-place finishes. This team’s last Turkish Cup victory took place in 2016.
