ERT Sports history, coverage, features
ERT Sports is a sports specific public channel from Greece, which is owned and operated by ERT, a state-funded television company from that country. It was launched on April 27, 2011 under the name ERT HD, becoming the first channel to air its content in High-Definition. ERT HD was shut down in 2013 as all ERT channels, but returned to TV sets in Greece in 2015, now under the name ERT Sports. In 2020, mainly caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the channel was removed from the Greek terrestrial channel grid and became an online sports channel.
Over the years, ERT Sports has produced content to cover various sports such as football, volleyball, Formula 1 racing, water polo, tennis, athletics, basketball, figure skating, handball, swimming, sailing, and more. While its feed strongly supports streaming content for domestic competitions, international tournaments have also been included in its programming.
Speaking about football, ERT Sports has covered international competitions via highlights for most of its existence. Added to that, the channel has covered live games of the Greek Football League, the second most relevant football league in the country.
Since its launch, ERT Sports has aired or streamed content in High-Definition, giving fans a detailed experience wherever they watch its content. ERT Sports’ signal may be streamed via the most popular web browsers and via mobile devices working with Android or iOS. These platforms may offer additional feeds to cover a variety of live shows at the same time.
