CONMEBOL TV History, Coverage, Features
CONMEBOL TV is a pay-per-view television channel owned by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), but production and operations costs have been absorbed by the Bandeirantes Communication Group. CONMEBOL TV was launched in September 2020 after football’s governing body in South America found it hard to strike broadcasting partners for their international games due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The channel was created by CONMEBOL after some of their broadcasting partners decided to terminate their deals with football’s governing body in South America due to financial problems caused by the pandemic. With the need to air games for their international competitions in Brazil, Band offered them the chance to launch a PPV channel to air those matches that were affected by the decision to terminate broadcasting deals.
CONMEBOL TV’s broadcasts have focused on airing continental competitions such as the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana. Plans to include the Recopa Sudamericana are also in place.
CONMEBOL TV has aired all its content in HD format since its launch.
