'La Pulga' admitted that, even while Argentina might be considered the great candidate to win it all, the team will try to learn from past mistakes to reach greatness.

The end of an era is fast approaching for the world of football, and while we all knew Lionel Messi's era would come to an end soon, the idea of seeing him admit it is time to call it quits still hurts, whether you are a fan or not.

With that in mind, the player's recent interview with Star+ will surely become one of the most discussed news in recent weeks, as the Argentine ace has finally confirmed he will not be playing one more FIFA World Cup match once the 2022 edition comes to an end.

"I am counting the days to play in the World Cup. There's anxiety and nervousness at the same time, to see it closer and to play. We're wondering what will happen there...plus, it will be my last one. On one hand, we want to get there right away and on the other one the tension to see us doing great there. I can practically assure it will be my last one," Messi said.

The footballer went on to weigh in on Argentina's chances of success in the competition.

"I don't know if we are the great candidates to win it, Argentina will always be mentioned because of its history and because of what it means to the world of football, and even more with our current form. Nevertheless, I don't see us as the top candidates. I think there are other teams that can be named ahead of us right now, but I think we are right next to them," Messi added.

The South American superstar went on with an evaluation of how complicated it will be for them to win it all in Qatar, even if La Albiceleste makes it to the competition with an impressive run of games without a loss.

"We will get there in great shape, especially with how things went for use lately. We are a strong team, with many options to damage our rivals, but a World Cup can see anything happening. All games are tough as hell, that is why it is so hard to win the World Cup, that's what makes it so special. Things will not just pan out the way you wanted, and that's what makes teams that were not labeled as favorites title contenders as the games go by," Messi concluded.

Argentina will fight for a spot in the KO stage out of Group C, where they are set to lock horns against Mexico, Poland, and Saudi Arabia. Their first match will be against the Asian side on November 22, 2022.
