Barcelona's title hopes are still alive, but they will have to win their matches, and hope for their rivals to drop points. Villareal is looking to solidify their Europa League spot, with Valencia on their tail.

Preview: Barcelona players head to El Madrigal with heavy hearts

It’s been an emotional campaign for Barcelona, and things got much more difficult this past week.

Former Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer, that forced him to step away from the world of football. There have been incredible amounts of touching words pouring in from across the globe, and on Sunday, the Catalans will be playing with heavy hearts.

Four points back of league leaders Atletico Madrid, Gerard Martino’s side not only needs to do their job, but they need both Madrid sides to drop points.

Barcelona will be up against a Villareal side who is holding onto the final European spot. They are just seven points clear of eighth placed Valencia, and with four matches remaining, there is still a chance for Valencia.

The Yellow Submarines have been better away from home, but that will not alter their game plan. If there has ever been a chance for Villareal to take advantage of a vulnerable Barcelona side, the time is now.

Regardless of Barcelona’s struggles this season, Marc Bartra still has faith that the Catalans can claim the La Liga title.

“We know that we have to play the remaining four games like finals and the best thing we can do is to go into them totally committed, so that we are there if Atletico or Real Madrid slip up,” he told reporters.

“There is no way we are giving up on the league title. We’re ambitious and we will be going out to win every game.”

Winless in their last four matches, Villareal faces a tall order on Sunday night. El Madrigal will be full of passionate fans pushing on their players, but it will be up to those on the pitch to put on a performance.

“Barcelona are coming and this game represents a good chance to reverse our situation and to make people enjoy themselves again,” Villareal’s Tomas Pina said to reporters.

“They have been the best team in recent times and we must respect that fact. Barca always inspires fear, especially in the final title face.”
