These two long time rivals will go head-to-head at the Estádio da Luz in an elimination match for the Taça de Portugal. This match will be live starting at 15:45 ET, and it will be one you will not want to miss.

Preview: On the verge of winning the league, Benfica has to overturn a one goal deficit

Benfica took another step towards the Portuguese League title on Sunday, with a 0-2 victory over Arouca. Jorge Jesus’ side can now claim their 33rd league championship on Sunday, when they host Olhanense at the Estádio da Luz.

First, they will need to turn a negative result against rivals Porto in the Taça de Portugal.

The Águias have won this competition a record 24 times, but the last time they raised the trophy was in 2004. In a matter of a few days, they will have a chance to book a place in the final, as well as claim the Portuguese League.

In the first leg of this semifinal, Porto came away with a 1-0 victory. On Wednesday, they will go up against a Benfica side that will have some absences.

Serbian midfielder Fejsa will not be available due to injury. Team captain Luisão as well as Ruben Amorim have been ruled out. With these absences, Jorge Jesus will likely opt to play Andre Gomes in the midfield, with Brazilian central defender Jardel filling the void left by Luisão.

Two goals will be needed for Benfica to eliminate Porto, unless they take a one-goal advantage into a penalty shootout. Spanish international Rodrigo will be aiming to shoot Benfica into the final, while continuing his fantastic form.

After scoring a goal against the current Portuguese champions in their first meeting this season, another solid performance from Rodrigo would go a long way.

Colombia’s Jackson Martinez will also not throw in the towel. Despite Porto’s poor form this season, and the league title being far from reach; he believes there is a lot to play for on Wednesday.

“It is very emotional remembering all the great moments, especially the ones from last year,” Jackson told reporters.

“We wanted to repeat this year, we were unable to do that, but we will battle until the end, knowing that there are still titles to be won.”

These two rivals will meet on Wednesday night, but will also still go head-to-head in the Taça da Liga later this month. And a very hostile environment awaits Benfica in the last match of the domestic campaign, which will be against Porto at the Estádio do Dragão.
