One of the main culprits for Liverpool's loss in the UEFA Champions League final will return to the English top-flight after a series of loan deals.

One of the most criticized goalkeepers in recent years will return to the Premier League for a second chance to prove his worth, even if some fans are not sure if he will be able to do so.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has ended his search for a new team after being cut by Liverpool and becoming a free agent last summer. The footballer, who spent three of the past four seasons on loan at Besiktas and Union Berlin will try his luck one more time with a Premier League club, as Newcastle have offered him a short-term contract in recent days.

The player's signing comes weeks after Martin Dubravka left the team and to help the team cope with Karl Darlow's absence due to injury. Initially, Karius' deal will last until January, but a clause in his contract could see him stay with the Magpies until the end of the season.

The footballer has played 72 games in the past four years, although he was frozen out by Liverpool during the previous season. Karius conceded 99 goals in his last three seasons, keeping 17 clean sheets in the process.

Speaking to the team's website, Newcastle coach Eddie Howe revealed the reasons for the German footballer's signing.

"We are pleased to add Loris to our goalkeeping group. He is a very good goalkeeper with Premier League and European experience and he will provide competition and support over an important part of the season,"the coach stated.

Karius is remembered for his key role to Liverpool's loss against Real Madrid in the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League final, where he made two massive mistakes to help Los Blancos win their third UCL title in a row. Since then, Karius' career has been filled with ups and downs, but the player is apparently ready to put that behind him during his spell with the Magpies.

"I'm excited. It's a good opportunity for me and a great project to be part of. It didn't take me long to make a decision. Newcastle have a great coach and play really attractive football. I felt it was the right project for me," Karius told the team's website.

Karius could make Newcastle's squad this weekend when the Premier League resumes. The black and white side will be facing Bournemouth at St. James' Park.
