The duo have been mainstays for the England national squad for over a decade, but following the Lionesses' triumph, have decided to hang up their boots.

This past July saw the English women's national team finally end their long wait for a major title, and in doing so, ended decades of frustration for all of England's sides in international competitions.

Next up for the Lionesses will be the 2023 Women's World Cup, but the triumphant side will have to make do without two star players.

Both Ellen White and Jill Scott have announced their retirements in recent days, and certainly, the duo, who have earned nearly 300 caps between them, could not have picked a better time to hang up their boots.

White is England women's all-time top goal-scorer, with 52 goals from 113 caps, and is second in terms of most goals of any England player, with only Wayne Rooney's 53 strikes bettering her tally. The 33-year-old, who most recently played her club football for Manchester City, made her debut for the national side 12 years ago in March 2010, and marked her senior debut by scoring the third of her team's goals as England cruised to a 3-0 win over Austria.

Meanwhile, Scott, who last played for Aston Villa, has also been a steady presence in the England women's team for over a decade. The 35-year-old midfielder first made her debut in May 2006, and went on to earn over 160 caps for the side.

Neither player have confirmed what their next steps will be post retirement, but it is safe to say that it is a well-earned rest for a duo who have seen both the highs and lows over the course of a decade-plus era of featuring for the Lionesses in various competitions.
