Conte hits out at Nagelsmann for Kane comments

WATCH: Antonio Conte hits out at Julian Nagelsmann for Bayern's public courting of Harry Kane

July 23, 2022 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Tottenham Hotspur boss has not taken things lightly with the Bundesliga club for comments made about Harry Kane.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has slammed Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann for being "disrespectful" after publicly declaring their interest in Harry Kane. The German coach was adamant to downplay his side's rumored desire to sign the English striker this summer.

After sanctioning the sale of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona for about $51M, Bayern Munich are on the lookout for the Polish striker's successor. With just a handful of quality strikers in the market, the German giants have turned their attention to Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane.

Earlier this week, the club's chief executive Oliver Kahn had revealed that it would be a "dream" to sign Kane and his declaration has seemingly been affirmed by his side's manager. Ahead of Bayern Munich's pre-season friendly encounter with Man City on Saturday, Nagelsmann was asked about the possibility of his side signing Kane. He said: "He [Kane] is very expensive that's the problem - but a brilliant player.

"[He's] one of the best forwards. [He's] perhaps one of two or three who can play as a centre forward [as well as a] No 10, but he's very strong, brilliant with [his] head and both feet.

"He could score a lot in the Bundesliga, I don't know the price, but it's really tough for Bayern Munich. We'll see what happens in the future."

The comments of the Bayern boss has not sat well with Antonio Conte and the Italian coach has made his sentiments known. Asked about the Bundesliga champions' pursuit of Kane after Spurs had beaten Ranger 2-1 in a pre-season friendly, he said: "Honestly I didn't hear this. For sure I'm a coach who doesn't talk about players from other teams.

"I don't know why [this happened]. The situation at Tottenham is very clear. The plan is very clear with the club. Harry is a part of the project. He is a very important part of the project and yeah only rumours.

"At the same time, I don't like to speak about players from another club. If I want to do something I go to speak to the club, not through the media.

"I think maybe it's a bit disrespectful for the other club. This is my way. This is my way to face the situation with other players." Watch:
