Robert Lewandowski's potential debut and Real Madrid's first friendly ahead of the 2022-23 season will be the main topics of interest to keep track of this clash.

The 2022-23 season in La Liga will be one for the ages with Real Madrid defending their title and with Barcelona trying to steal it away from them in Xavi Hernández's first full season as Los Culés' coach. But before the season begins, both clubs will continue to prepare for a grueling campaign, and what better way to do so than facing each other in one more edition of El Clásico.

The match in itself will be historic, as this will be the second time in which these football giants face each other outside of Spain. The first one took place in 2017, with Barcelona taking the win thanks to a 3-2 score, which saw Lionel Messi, Ivan Rakitic and Gerard Piqué scoring for Los Blaugranas. On the other hand, Mateo Kovacic and Marco Asensio found the back of the net for Los Blancos. Much has changed since that last meeting, and will be interesting to see how these teams gear up for the upcoming season.

Real Madrid will be playing their first warmup match this summer after winning La Liga and their 14th UEFA Champions League, the second one under Carlo Ancelotti. During the offseason, Los Merengues have hired two footballers: Aurelien Tchouameni and Antonio Rüdiger, who will add depth to the team and who are also expected to lead the change of guard for the Spanish capital side.

Aside from this additions, Los Merengues saw Isco, Gareth Bale and Marcelo running out of contracts, forcing the club to fill their spots with players such as Eden Hazard, who will be given one more chance to shine with Los Merengues after what can only be categorized as three disappointing seasons at the Bernabeu.

On the other hand, Barcelona will start the season with nothing but redemption on their minds after a trophyless season. To add insult to their 2021-22 campaign, Los Culés were eliminated from all top competitions in the early stages, forcing them to play in the UEFA Europa League, a tournament in which they were embarrassed by eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt at their own home.

Now, with Xavi being able to plan his first full season as Barcelona's coach, the team is expected to make up for that disappointing campaign. That notion has seen the Blaugrana side hiring quite a few top-caliber players, starting with Robert Lewandowski, who can only be categorized as the major signing of the ongoing transfer window. Other additions to the team during the summer transfer window include Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessié, but Los Culés have vowed to add more talent to their roster.
