Football fans are in for a treat as legends from around the globe are set to go head to head in a friendly match set to take place in Switzerland on Tuesday, the 4th of March 2014.

A match which has been billed as Ronaldo, Zidane and Friends vs BSC Young Boys and Friends will see the likes of former Real Madrid legends Ronaldo, Zidane and Figo return to action once again. The event which marks this game is the 11th ‘annual match against poverty’ and this time around the majority of the proceeds will be donated to the people affected from the Typhoon Haiyan which struck Philippines last November.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) ambassadors Ronaldo and Zidane are just two of the star players who are expected to play part in the match. The prolific duo will be joined by Italian international Paolo Maldini who after dedicating his entire playing career to one club, has now expressed his delight of returning to the football pitch for a good cause.

"I was verypleased with the invitation I received. I played as a defender throughout all my career and now I'm ready to defend the people of the Philippines in the fight against poverty,” said the former AC Milan defender.

Maldini will be accompanied in defence by compatriot and former Ballon D’or winner Fabio Cannavaro as well as Spanish international Fernando Hierro. Other prominent Italians in the list of players set to take field on Tuesday at the the Stade de Suisse include former AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso as well as 2002 Guerin d'Oro winner Christian Vieri.

Former Arsenal trio Freddie Ljungberg , Robert Pires and Patrick Vieira have also made the cut and are among the 32 players who have confirmed their participation in the match.

The star studded side will be coached by former Chelsea manager Ruud Gullit who is overwhelmed at the prospect of being in charge of a team comprised of some of the best players to ever grace the game.

"It is a privilege and a challenge to steer a team with such great world football names," said the Dutch international.

"We would like to count on a massive public presence to see us playing and help us support the people of the Philippines.”

The Young Boys team on the other hand will be led by Swiss internationals Stephane Chapuisat and Hakan Yakin and will include former as well as present Young Boys players.

Among other players 2009 Ballon D’or winner Luis Figo has made an appeal for more people to come to the stadium to watch the match and support the players in raising funds for a good cause.

“I am making an appeal to the public to come to the Stade de Suisse,” the Portuguese said.

I would be delighted to see the stands full of people so we could celebrate football together in the fight against poverty. Let's help the Philippines.
