Report: Ten Hag's role in Rangnick's Man Utd exit

Ten Hag's role in Ralf Rangnick's surprise Man United exit revealed

June 24, 2022 By Ali M.
A report by ESPN has revealed the power struggle that took place at Old Trafford which led to Rangnick's unexpected departure.

Many Manchester United fans were under the presumption that the arrival of Erik ten Hag as manager and the assistance of Ralf Rangnick would restore law and order at a club whose decline has been well documented.

However, much to everyone's surprise, the highly-rated German tactician, who was set to take up an advisory role at Old Trafford after completing his interim job, was promptly let go after the season came to an end.

And now, a report by ESPN has emerged claiming that despite everyone's predictions, Ten Hag and Rangnick was not a match made in heaven. According to the American news outlet, the former Ajax boss wasn't keen on working alongside the German and thus played a pivotal role in the club's decision to part ways with Ralf.

The former RB Leipzig director left the English giants for the Austrian national team just a week after the Premier League season wrapped up, a decision Erik played a part in as the Dutchman was against the pre-agreed two-year consultancy role.

While the decision to let Rangnick go was taken by the club, the German was reportedly already unhappy due to his first conversation with Ten Hag. The interim boss was expecting a face-to-face conversation with the newly-appointed manager but the Eredivisie winner only accepted a conversation with his predecessor via a phone call.

Additionally, the Manchester United hierarchy were not too pleased with Rangnick's conduct towards the end of the campaign, with his public statement that the Red Devils need 10 new signings this summer rubbing them the wrong way.

With the German gone, Ten Hag has seized total control of the 20-time English champions. Unfortunately, the gaffer is yet to secure any new signings this summer as their Frenkie de Jong pursuit continues to drag on. Additionally, Jurriën Timber, who was their key defensive target, appears set to remain at Ajax for the upcoming season.
