High flying Manchester City will face Championship side Leicester City in a Capital One Cup encounter on Tuesday, the 17th of December.

Rampant Manchester City will play away to Leicester City in the Capital One Cup.Preview: Leicester face a daunting task in Capital one fixture

The Blues will have to put the performance of a lifetime if they are to get anything out of the match when they face the league’s top scorers Manchester City. Fresh from a 6-3 mauling of league toppers Arsenal, the Citizens will be in a buoyant mood ahead of the match.

The Etihad side who have not won the competition in 37 years boast a mesmerising attacking unit which has scored goals for fun in the league this season even against the likes of neighbours Manchester United and North London sides Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Argentine international Sergio Aguero however will miss out on the trip to Leicester after suffering a calf injury in the match against Arsenal. Coach Manuel Pellegrini confirmed of his star striker’s absence but is unsure how long his top scorer will be out for.

"Sergio Aguero, we will see him with the doctor, maybe he has some problem with his calf but I don't know at the moment how many weeks [he will be out for],” said the Chilean.

With Aguero gathering all the headlines for his wonderful performances this season, Pellegrini praised his prolific attacking trio who have been outstanding this season.

“Yaya, Samir [Nasri] and David all played very well, too. The four in the midfield are very difficult to play against. The strikers can score a lot of goals with them behind them.”

However the former Real Madrid coach reserved special praise for Brazilian international Fernandinho , who put forth a man of the match performance in the game against Arsenal.

“He is a typical Brazilian midfielder, he plays very well with the ball, he has a lot of pace and he gets forward well. He’s doing very good work with Yaya Toure and I’m very happy for him,” said the City manager.

It is however likely that the aforementioned players will be rested, a policy Pellegrini has followed in league cup matches in order to allow fringe players to prove their worth. Thus Edin Dzeko who scored in both the league cup matches against Wigan and Newcastle, Stevan Jovetic who was signed in the summer from Fiorentina and James Milner who inspired City towards an emphatic victory over Bayern Munich are all expected to be handed starting berths.

The Citizens have maintained their scoring record in the Capital One Cup having managed seven goals in the two matches they have played so far. A 5-0 mauling of Wigan Athletic was followed by a 2-0 victory at St James' Park against Newcastle United.

Leicester on the other hand have experienced a dip in form after failing to record a win in any of their last three matches. Nigel Pearson's defence will now be tested against a side which has scored 47 goals in 16 Premier League games.

The Foxes scored victory against the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, Carlisle United, Derby County as well as Premier League side Fulham to book a place in the Quarter Finals but face their strongest challenge yet on Tuesday.

Leicester however can fancy their chances given City’s poor away form. Whereas the Sky Blues have been lethal at their own turf they have experienced some upsets away from home. Their 7-0 win over Norwich City was followed by a 1-0 defeat at the hands of struggling Sunderland and Leicester can take advantage of City’s inconsistency.

Last time the two sides played at the King Power was back in January 2011 when the match ended in a 2-2 draw only for City to score a 4-2 victory in the replay match.
