Borussia Dortmund takes on a Wolfsburg side which is quietly progressing upwards in the Bundesliga at the Volkswagen Arena on 9th November, 2013.

Wolfsburg could give Borussia Dortmund a tough fight in the Bundesliga on November 9, 2013.Preview: Wolfsburg looking to take the sting out of Borussia Dortmund’s attack

Dortmund’s season took a hit on Wednesday evening as the Ruhr team went down to Arsenal, 0-1, in their very own Westfalenstadion, leaving them fighting for a spot in the final 16 of the UEFA Champions League. Wolfsburg’s keen manager, Dieter Hecking, surely noticed how Arsenal managed to snuff out Marco Reus, Robert Lewandowski and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. He will be looking to go down a similar route.

For the Ruhr side, Lukasz Piszczek is out as is Ilkay Gündogan. Jakub Blaszczykowski and Mats Hummels are also set to miss out on this contest. Sebastian Kehl is prepared to travel with BVB for the first time since Bundesliga Match-day Five. For Wolfsburg, their creative head, Diego will be unavailable due to a stomach problem. Along with him, Vierinha, Christian Träsch and Koo Ja-Cheol will sit this one out. Hecking will rely on Luiz Gustavo to help cut out BVB’s attacks and at the same time provide some impetus for the offense whenever necessary.

Wolfsburg’s coach feels that BVB’s defeat to Arsenal will not have a bearing on this match. His side has won three matches on the row. He wants to keep the run going but he knows that his side needs to be extremely wary of silly errors as BVB has made it a habit of punishing mistakes in the league. The Bundesliga’s official website took note of Hecking’s feelings ahead of this one:

“We not only want to put in a good performance against BVB, we want emerge with a successful result. We have to play the way we have been and try to avoid making silly errors, because Dortmund usually punish you straight away.

I don’t expect them to be knocked off their stride. They’re used to performing at the highest possible level in every competition. My players want to do the same and they all understand this is a huge chance for VfL to be successful.”

Jürgen Klopp on the other hand seemed upbeat ahead of this one despite Wednesday’s result. This is what he had to say according to Borussia Dortmund’s official website:

“Friday is the day we prepare for the game, and Saturday is the day we play. That´s the rhythm we wanted and want.”

Also, he feels that his side’s almost chaotic movements can overcome Hecking’s system of man marking:

“Moving around in football helps to circumvent any defensive tactic.”

One player who will be waiting to hit Dortmund will be Ivan Perisic. The young star arrived in Dortmund and impressed under Klopp’s tutelage. However, in search of more playing time, he moved to greener pastures. Klopp is fully aware that Perisic can hurt his team as is quoted by the Bundesliga’s official website:

“He'll be full of confidence. He hasn’t lost any of his ability with his feet or in the air. He’s an incredibly good player.”
