Preview: Another goal fest between City and Norwich?
Coach Chris Hughton is enduring a tough period. The month of October was one to forget with three losses and a draw. Norwich City scored only twice and conceded as many as 11 goals in all competitions. Their Capital One Cup campaign came to an abrupt end earlier on Tuesday as they fell to a 4-0 result against Manchester United at Old Trafford. On their visit to the blue side of the city, Norwich will be hoping for a better result.
However, records are clearly against the visitors (8) who count half of Manchester City’s points (16) in the Premier League. The last five league meetings between the two have produced some of the Citizens most dramatic and biggest victories. These include a 6-1 triumph in April 2012 and a 4-3 win nine months later.
Back in May this year, Man City were managerless. Roberto Mancini had been sacked for failing to offer the billionaire club a single trophy. The player’s lack of motivation and confidence translated into a 3-2 loss to Norwich on home soil. It summed up their disappointing season while the red side of Manchester celebrated in style the departure of a great icon in the form of Alex Ferguson.
Currently, seventh-placed City (16 points) seat above the Red Devils (14 points) but they are still not where they wanted to be after nine rounds of matches. Grabbing victory on Saturday could see them break into the Top Four. Manuel Pellegrini’s men received a psychological boost in midweek with their hard-fought win over Newcastle United in the Capital One Cup.
They are unbeaten in 36 of their last 38 Premier League games at the Etihad Stadium. Having lost to Chelsea at the Bridge last weekend, Manchester City will be keen to take full advantage of the home factor against the Yellows who will be starting the match in 18th position
