After a truly promising first ever start for Manchester United, the young midfielder has signalled the club’s management that losing him like Paul Pogba is simply not worth the risk.
Manchester United were at the back of their worst start to a top flight campaign in 20 years and things seemed to be getting increasingly bleak at the red side of Manchester. With star players like Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie failing to provide a much needed inspiration, it was 18 year old Adnan Januzaj who rose to the occasion providing David Moyes with the victory he needed to get his side back on track.

With Sunderland leading 1-0, David Moyes’ most imaginative line-ups to date offered little. A forward line that boasted the likes of Nani, Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and Adnan Januzaj lacked creativity in the first half. Nani is still finding it real hard to be the player he was always billed to be, it was surprising to see Rooney play the whole game while Van Persie missed a chance that he could have converted blindfolded last season.

Uncharacteristic performances left the burden on the very young shoulders of Januzaj who rather than being intimidated by the responsibility, took it to his chin and delivered in a style that not many players of his age can, especially if they are playing for a club that is a behemoth when it comes to global fan base and history.

What is even more surprising is that it was Januzaj’s first ever professional start for the Red Devils and had he performed below par, he would have been forgiven. Instead, the youngster remained Moyes’ side’s perennial threat until he was brought back to the bench amid a rapturous support by the away fans.

A self-assured finish for the equaliser was followed by a volley that even Van Persie would have been proud of. Indeed the youngster’s excellent and memorable consideration saved quite a lot of blushes. Moyes’ were saved for obvious reasons and Nemanja Vidic’s were saved after the Serb’s uncharacteristic error contributed to Craig Gardner’s opener.

Despite wearing the number 44 jersey, Januzaj’s performance was something that some of the club’s finest number sevens would have been proud of.

Though it was a game against a team which is not just at the foot of the Premier League table but is also without a manager, it was the right stage for the youngster to finally introduce himself to the footballing world.

Moyes made a choice and it proved to be the right one. Speaking of choices, Januzaj is definitely a teenager who has quite a lot of them.

At the age of 18, the midfielder is one of those rare youngsters who have the opportunity to play for more than two national sides of his choice. Thanks to his diverse heritage, he can play for Belgium, Turkey, Serbia, Albanai and even England. And with his contract entering its final year, the youngster will have quite a lot of offers from around the continent if he chooses to play his trade elsewhere.

And that is where the Red Devils management has to make things happen. After losing Paul Pogba to Juventus and the Frenchman later on proving it was a wrong decision on Sir Alex Ferguson’s part, Moyes should do well to avoid the same mistake.

Furthermore, with the way the summer transfer window concluded for Manchester United, the Red Devils simply cannot afford to lose a player who has already shown that he is a star in the making.
