In a transfer window which seemed quite underwhelming for the Arsenal fans at first, manager Arsene Wenger has pulled one out of the hat by splashing the cash on German international Mesut Ozil.
The former Real Madrid man is Arsenal’s record signing and with the reputation the 24 year old boasts, it can be said that he is very well worth every penny paid for him. Signing one of the best playmakers in the world right now, is clearly a strong signal of intent from Arsene Wenger who wants to bring an end to a long running trophy drought which has consumed the last eight years of his managerial career.

A youth product of Schalke 04, Ozil had from early days been touted to achieve great things. After falling out with the club management, the youngster made his move to Werder Bremen where he started showing his true colours of what a wonderful prospect he was.

His talent caught the eye of the European elites namely Real Madrid, Manchester United and Arsenal with the German securing a move to the Bernabeu for a modest 15 million euro fee. During his time in Spain the youngster continued to impress and coupled his 27 goals with an impressive 81 assists in 157 games for Los Blancos.

However the arrival of Gareth Bale meant that one of Madrid’s attacking minded players had to be sacrificed to make space for the Tottenham man which instigated Ozil’s move to Arsenal.

For long Arsenal have been missing a player in the mould of Cesc Fabregas and have finally signed someone who could fill in the void created by the former Arsenal captain.

Like Ozil, Fabregas was also an astute player who had a knack for providing defence splitting passes to his teammates most of which created goal scoring opportunities.

The 24 year old is likely to play the number ten role, just behind the striker and will be given a lot of freedom something which he did not have during his time in Spain.

At Madrid he played along with wingers who were predominantly individualistic yet productive. Arsene Wenger on the other hand promotes a different brand of football, one which involves a lot of team work with slick one touch passing, a style of play which will allow Ozil to further expose his talents.

The Gunners who began their campaign with a disappointing defeat against Aston Villa in the opening game have been a different side ever since and have managed four wins in the last four games.
A lot of players have stepped up this season and have contributed significantly towards Arsenal’s recent form.

Wojciech Szenczy had his talents doubted by many of the Arsenal fans and other Pundits last season. However the Polish international has responded strongly and has been performing commendably so far. A fine performance against Fulham and then against Tottenham ensured that the Gunners bagged all three points in both the games.

Aaron Ramsey has been the pick of players for Arsenal so far this season. A player who was at the receiving end of much abuse last season has been the recipient of much of the praises from Arsenal fans. His growing confidence has done wonders to his performances which have been full of energy and vigour.

Per Mertesacker on the other hand has taken his responsibility as stand in captain quite seriously. The German international covers for his lack of agility and pace with excellent positioning and well timed tackles. He has started all five of Arsenal’s matches so far helping his side maintain a clean sheet in three of these games.

He might not be Robin Van Persie, but Olivier Giroud has started to show why he is so highly regarded by his manager Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman has managed three goals in three premier league appearances so far. The 26 year old seems to have worked a lot on his off the ball movement which has been evident in the goals he has scored against Tottenham and Aston Villa.

Apart from the aforementioned players Arsenal have other talented players who could really contribute towards a title push this season. However consistency is something the Arsenal side has lacked over the years and it will be a problem they will have to overcome in order to put an end to the trophy drought.

The addition of Mesut Ozil nevertheless is surely a very exciting prospect for Arsenal fans who after eight years of agony could finally see their team achieving bigger things this season.
