Preview: So much heat as both eye explosive start to the Italian season
Unlike it was in the past couple of years, the Italian Supercup will not take place at the Bird’s Nest stadium in China but at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. As ESPNFC’s Ben Gladwell explained, fatigue and financial concerns were factors related to the cancellation of the game being played in Beijing as previously agreed.
Disputes between both sides in the build up to the clash have intensified the atmosphere. Defender Giorgio Chiellini expressed his opinion, stating:
“We are desperate to win. Believe me, we'll be ready. We want to make a flying start for a fantastic season. Finally, on Sunday, it's time for all the talking to be done out there on the pitch.”
He concluded:
“We know that, with hard work, we can aim for certain results, which are to confirm ourselves in Italy and improve in Europe. They are our objectives so beating any side can only do us good.”
Adding spice to the 2013 Italian Supercup is Juventus’ presentation of summer signings Angelo Ogbonna.
Meanwhile, Lazio will be out to prove that the competition in Italian football is not just about Juventus or Milan. The Biancoceleste last won the Supercoppa Italiana in the year 2000. More than a decade after this achievement, they have their eyes set on triumphing.
