The Red Devils have been tipped to secure the service of the young center-back as they target a squad overhaul this summer.

Ajax starlet Jurrien Timber has reportedly emerged as the No.1 center-back choice for Manchester United ahead of this summer's transfer window. The 20-year-old defender has been tipped among a handful of players expected to follow Erik ten Hag to Old Trafford with a rebuild on the horizon for the Red Devils.

Timber has excelled under Ten Hag at Ajax this season and has been an intergal member to their run-in as well. The young defender has made 40 appearances in all competitions and is on the verge of winning the Eredivise once more with the Amsterdam outfit.

Following the confirmation of Erik ten Hag's appointment as the new Manchester United boss, the Dutch international has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford. While no significant discussions have began yet, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf has revealed that a move to Manchester could be on the cards for the youngster. Brazilian attacker Antony is also believed to be on the radar of the 20-time English champions.

Rumors suggest that Harry Maguire could be shown the exit door this summer while others have stated that the English defender may be reduced to a squad player as he is not expected to play an active role in the exodus being led by Ten Hag. The world's most-expensive defender has come under fire in recent seasons for consistent poor performances and a fraction of Man United fans have asked the club to cut its losses by showing him the exit door.

At the moment no definite decision has been made on the future of the former Leicester City defender as United awaits the arrival of Ten Hag. Over the weekend, the 28-year-old center-back was not featured in the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal after receiving an alleged bomb threat at his home. Prior to the game, police were called to the player's residence in Cheshire hours after he allegedly received the email.
