The Blaugrana return to action in La Liga on Sunday, taking on Lopetegui's side with the sole aim of going second in the table.

Preview

With the international break having come to an end, action has finally resumed in La Liga. Saturday saw Matchday 30 get underway but all eyes will be on Sunday's clash between Barcelona and Sevilla, with the Catalan giants looking to maintain their impressive form as of late.

This will be the first game for the Blaugrana since El Clasico. It was two weeks ago when the Catalan giants visited Real Madrid in a now unforgettable tie. While Los Blancos were without Karim Benzema for that game, not many expected Xavi's men to run riot at Santiago Bernabeu, but that is just what they did, thrashing their bitter rivals in the Spanish capital.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ran rampant that day, netting a brace and assisting another goal to help his side to an impressive 4-0 victory over Los Merengues, with Torres and Araujo scoring the other two goals. In the eyes of many, that performance marked the return of Barcelona, a club that had been in decline until the appointment of Xavi Hernandez as Ronald Koeman's successor.

The Camp Nou side have only failed to win three out of their last 12 fixtures across all competitions, with those three slip-ups being draws, not defeats. As a result, Pedri and Co. have climbed up the Primera Division table, with Sunday's home side temporarily sitting fourth in the table, with only three points separating them from second-placed Sevilla.

Does this mean Julen Lopetegui's side should be worried? Not only are Barcelona hot on their heels, but Atletico Madrid have caught up with them, with Simeone's men moving level on points with Sevillistas Los Rojiblancos thanks to the Madrid giants' 4-1 victory over Alaves.

Kounde and Co. have been one of Spain's best teams this season, but in recent weeks, form has slipped away from the Andalusian side. The visitors are winless in all but one of their last five games, winning only twice in their last eight outings across all competitions.

Additionally, Sevilla suffered Europa League heartbreak not too long ago, crashing out in the round of 16 at the hands of West Ham in extra time. Nonetheless, Lopetegui's side boast the best defense in the league this season and will look to their solidity at the back for inspiratiion when they visit the mighty Barcelona.

Team news

Barcelona: Xavi has unfortunately lost Sergino Dest, with the USMNT ace picking up a knock ahead of this crucial tie. The former Ajax talent joins Sergi Roberto and Samuel Umtiti on the sidelines. As for Ansu Fati, while the Spaniard is progressing well, this game comes too early for the highly-rated attacker.

Sevilla: Thomas Delaney picked up a knock during the international break and will thus be unavailable for Sunday's clash. Fernarndo is a doubt while Acuna, Gomez, and Suso might also be forced to sit out this Camp Nou trip. To make things worse, Bono is also a doubt, meaning Lopetegui might have to look elsewhere for a goalkeeper.
