Lukaku set to return to Serie A this summer?

Report: Lukaku allegedly taking steps to end woeful Chelsea stay

March 22, 2022 By Oscar Rojas
The Belgian ace has not been able to prove his worth for the Blues, which has prompted him to look for a way out of Stamford Bridge.

Once again, it seems that Romelu Lukaku will leave Chelsea with nothing to show for, as the Belgian footballer is reportedly preparing to bid farewell to Stamford Bridge once the season comes to an end.

The former Manchester United and Inter Milan striker has had his ups and downs with the Blues, and his inability to claim a spot in the team's lineup along with his poor relationship with coach Thomas Tuchel have forced him to seek for pastures new.

With those facts in mind, the idea of letting Lukaku leave has started to circle around the minds of Chelsea execs, who may only be able to negotiate his exit once the current season goes to an end. The player has taken his own steps to secure his exit, which include saying goodbye to some of his Chelsea teammates, according to Italian journalist Fabio Bergomi.

"Lukaku has told one of his friends that he has started to bid farewell to his friends at Chelsea," the journalist saud on CMIT TV.

The journalist went on to discuss Inter's potential summer moves, which would include making space for Lukaku.

"Inter are preparing for a major overhaul, with two names right in the middle of it: Lautaro (Martínez) and (Nicoló) Barella. The midfielder is one of the names Real Madrid are considering to become Kroos' replacement. They also plan to sell Correa, Alexis Sánchez will leave the club as well, and Caicedo is not even in the mix. If Lautaro leaves, Inter would go all in for Dybala, and they are already working with Chelsea for Lukaku's return," Bergomi said.

The possibility of watching Lukaku back with the Serie A side is quite feasible, since the Belgian was key for the nerazzurri's title run under Antonio Conte. During his days with the Italian side, Lukaku scored 64 goals in 95 games across all competitions (a 67% rate), while he has only scored ten goals in 31 matches for the Blues (a 32% productivity rate).

It seems that a lot would need to happen for Lukaku to secure his move back to Inter, but the Italian club has done it once and with the moves they are planning for next summer, they could very well do it again.
