Two of the surprise packages of this season’s UEFA Champions League go head to head in the quarterfinals on Wednesday in a mouthwatering game in Spain.

Team News

Malaga has no injuries to worry about. Marcel Schmelzer and Mats Hummels are both doubtful for the Ruhr side.

Analysis

Dortmund is coming into this on the back off a brutal fight against VfB Stuttgart. They won 1-2, preventing Bayern from securing the title in March. Despite the victory, Jürgen Klopp lamented the hardships his player had to suffer to earn that win. Georg Niedermeier in particular caused BVB quite a bit of trouble. Dortmund had to fight hard despite that fact that the Swabians played a portion of the second half with ten men.

BVB is a side that relies on energy. Considering that they spent a considerable amount of energy in that game and now have to travel to Spain, how much will be left in the players’ tanks? Dortmund is the only side to remain unbeaten in the Champions League as Juventus fell to a defeat on Tuesday. BVB has had a nearly flawless Champions League campaign thanks to the likes of Mario Götze, Marco Reus and Ilkay Gündogan. They were brilliant against Shaktar in the second leg.

Malaga is a team which plays with plenty of flair. They are coming into this one on the back of a win over Rayo Vallecano, 1-3. They even got the better of Real Madrid in La Liga this season. They have players such as Isco who can really weave magic out of poor passes. The entire team is filled with intelligent passers. Malaga will look to pass their way through BVB while Dortmund will look to press Malaga incessantly and attack them on the counter.
