The Blaugrana left-back scored one of the goals of the season as his side secured three important points at the expense of their rivals.

Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba scored a potential 'Goal of the Season' contender in his side's massive win over Atletico Madrid on Sunday. The 32-year-old defender's wondergoal inspired Los Blaugrana to an emphatic 4-2 lead which they held onto at Camp Nou after being reduced to 10 men.

A packed Camp Nou created the perfect atmosphere for Xavi and his men to deliver one their best performances of the season despite having had to start on the back foot. Yannick Carrasco had put Atletico Madrid ahead inside the first eight minutes, sealing off a brilliant team move with a powerful shot into the bottom corner.

Less than 120 seconds later Jordi Alba drew the game level by expertly volleying home Dani Alves' cross from the right with a precision. Watch the goal below:

Barcelona never stopped attacking from that point onward, and their persistence proved useful as Gavi will subsequently fire them ahead by getting on the end of Adama Traore's beautiful cross in the 21st minute. Two minutes before the half-time break, Ronald Araujo put the game out of reach for the visitors by the Catalans' third goal.

Dani Alves made it a memorable afternoon by scoring Barcelona's fourth goal just four minutes after play resumed for the second half. The veteran full-back was then sent off in the 69th minute for a stomp on Carrasco's leg. In Luis Suarez scored Atletico Madrid's second goal of the encounter in another return to Camp Nou since his departing in 2020. The Uruguayan striker apologised to crowd and did not celebrate goal against his former club.

With the result, Barcelona finished the weekend in La Liga top four for the first time since September 2021. The Catalans are now two points ahead of fifth-placed Atletico Madrid and 12 points behind leaders Real Madrid.
