Burkina Faso GK goes viral after epic celebration

AFCON 2021: Burkina Faso goalkeeper Hervé Koffi goes viral after epic celebration in win vs Gabon

January 24, 2022 By Ali M.
The Stallions shot-stopper won over the Internet with his acrobatic celebration after his country beat Gabon on penalties in the round of 16.

Everyone loves acrobatic celebrations, and on Sunday, Burkina Faso goalkeeper Hervé Koffi took that to the extreme!

The Stallions were in action in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations over the weekend, with the West African country kicking off the round of 16 with their clash with Gabon. This tie was an entertaining showdown from start to finish, with Bertrand Traore offering Burkina Faso a 1-0 lead just before the half-an-hour mark only for the game to end 1-1 at full-time.

Gabon were reduced to 10 men in the 68th minute thanks to Sidney Obissa's sending off, but a 91st-minute own goal from Adama Guira leveled things for the Panthers, thus forcing the game into extra time. No goals were scored during the additional 30 minutes, meaning the game headed into penalty shootout, and what an intense affair that turned out to be!

A total of 18 spot-kicks were taken, with 13 of them being converted while five were missed. Both goalkeepers stopped one each while two were skied. Unfortunately for Gabon, when Lloyd Palun struck the crossbar with his attempt during sudden death, Burkina Faso's Ismahila Ouedraogo was presented with the opportunity to win the game for his nation. And win it, he did, as the 22-year-old buried his penalty with ease to send his country through to the quarterfinals.

The midfielder ripped off his shirt in celebration and was swarmed by his jubilant teammates, and rightfully so, given that he had just netted the winner. However, it was his keeper who stole the spotlight in this instance.

Koffi was on his knees when Ouedraogo stepped up to the spot, and after the player found the back of the net, the Burkina Faso goalkeeper could not hold back. The Charleroi shot-stopper was caught on camera pulling off an epic number of consecutive back flips in celebration, with that clip now going viral on social media, winning the heart and praise of football fans from across the globe. Check out that moment in the clip below.

The 25-year-old Belgian top-flight player can hold his head up high after his performance on Saturday. However, he cannot linger too long on that display as the Stallions' focus must quickly shift to the last eight, where they will battle it out with Tunisia for a spot in the semifinals.
