Porto will have another chance to take over the top spot in the Portuguese League on Monday when they host Gil Vicente.

A perfect record at home this season with eight victories in as many matches has Porto on the verge of being able to take over first place on Monday.

They will not only need to win the match, but they will need to do it by a three goal margin. Taking on a Gil Vicente side who is 12th in the league should offer Vitor Pereira's side the perfect chance to claim the top spot.

Gil Vicente has traveled to the city of Porto to take on the Dragoes on 18 different occasions, but unfortunately for them, they have never been able to even take a point from their opponents.

Winless in all your previous matches will not offer you the most confidence, but if anything, it can and should motivate the players to write some history of their own.

Paulo Alves believe his side will be prepared to battle for the points on Monday at the Estadio do Dragao.

"Porto is a very strong opponent and that is why we will need to have a positive attitude and we will need to be determined," said Alves in his press conference on Saturday.

"Porto has shown a great amount of consistency in regards to their performance throughout the season. Regardless of that, we want to battle for the points just like we do in any other match. I think we have already proven that we can do that."

Both these sides met on opening day of the new campaign and they played to a 0-0 draw.

Looking at the first meeting between these two earlier this season, Porto will be without a few notable names.

Hulk featured in their first encounter, but the Brazilian forward is now a Zenit St. Petersburg player. James Rodriguez will also be a notable absence for the Dragoes as he is recovering from a hamstring injury he picked up a few weeks ago.

Porto's newest signing, Liedson, will get a chance to play in his new stadium and in front of his new fans on Monday. After a few days of practice with his new teammates, the Brazilian born striker will get a chance to make his first appearance in a Porto uniform.

Prediction

When you look at both these sides and their current run of form, it is nearly impossible to not see Porto winning this match. Not only should they win, but they should do it in a convincing way.

The visitors have not been able to even grab a point away to Porto, let alone beat them, so Monday should not be much different.

Porto's form at home has been beyond impressive, tallying eight victories with 21 goals scored and just one against. One goal against, does it get more impressive than that?

Gil Vicente has only scored 14 goals this season, leaving them tied with Maritimo and Moreirense for the worst offense in the Portuguese League.

So what do you get when you put together the league's best defense against the league's worst offense? The answer should be goals and plenty of them.

We also can not forget to mention that in the 18 previous meetings between these two sides with Porto being the host, Gil Vicente has only scored six goals while Porto has scored 42.

With another chance to take over the top spot and playing at home, Porto's players will be up for this match. The home fans may even get the chance to see Liedson grab his first goal in the blue and white.
