The top team in the Bundesliga takes on the side second from bottom in the DFB Pokal in a Bavarian derby.

Team News

Bayern’s Luiz Gustavo is still rated doubtful as his comeback has taken longer than it was supposed to. Holger Badstuber is out for the rest of the season. Javier Martinez took a blow to the head at the weekend and temporarily lost vision in his left eye but should be back for this one.

Augsburg’s Sascha Mölders is back and scoring for the club. Sebastien Langkamp might not make it for this one. Mohammad Amsif continues to deputize in goal for the injured Simon Jentzsch. Dominik Reinhardt wasn’t in the squad for their most recent game against Fürth and neither was Paul Verhaegh.

Analysis

Augsburg gave a good account of themselves in their meeting with Bayern in the league. Markus Weinzierl is going to perhaps using the same game plan. The plan will include pressing Bayern into losing the ball and hitting them on the counter-attack. They will also try to use Bayern’s vulnerability in set-piece situations to their advantage. Bayern will of-course pass the ball around confidently and at speed and will try to grab an early goal.
