Dortmund, meanwhile, suffered a draw while Leverkusen and Freiburg were beaten over the weekend.

Matchday 15 in the Bundesliga has come to a wrap, with the ninth and final fixture of the recent round having taken place yesterday.

The action began on Friday with Augsburg's trip to Koln, with Fuggerstädter sealing an impressive 2-0 away victory. The top teams in the country took to the field on Saturday, however, with some enjoying victories while others suffered slip-ups.

League leaders Bayern Munich came close to dropping points but were able to pull off a 2-1 comeback triumph over Mainz. Hoffenheim, meanwhile, beat Freiburg by a similar score line to leapfrog them in the table.

RB Leipzig returned to winning ways over the weekend, thrashing Borussia M'gladbach 4-1. On the flip side, it was a bad weekend for Dortmund as they were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Bochum. Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, suffered an embarrassing 5-2 defeat against Frankfurt. Here's everything you need to know about the recent German top-flight round.

  • Despite being a goal down until nearly the hour mark, Bayern Munich were able to pull off a comeback victory over Mainz. Not only did this result see them stretch their lead at the top, but it also helped two men reach excellent feats. The first is Thomas Muller as the German midfielder secured victory no.291 in the German top-flight in a Bayern Munich jersey, equaling Manfred Kaltz (Hamburger SV) for the most wins by a player with a single club in the competition.

  • The other man to set a lovely milestone in die Roten's victory over Mainz was Nagelsmann. The highly-rated German tactician registered his 100th win in the Bundesliga on Saturday, becoming the youngest coach in history to reach this landmark.

  • Bottom-of-the-table Greuther Fürth registered their first win of the season in the recent round, beating Union Berlin 1-0. While that result looks to have little to no effect on their fight to avoid relegation, it did help them end one of their worst hoodoos. The Bavarian outfit had never won a home game in the German top-flight but managed to end this terrible run in their 24th attempt.

  • Domenico Tedesco made his RB Leipzig debut over the weekend, and what a debut that turned out to be. Goals from Josko Gvardiol, Andre Silva, Christopher Nkunku and Benjamin Henrichs guided the struggling German giants to a precious 4-1 victory over Gladbach, with that triumph bringing an end to their three-game losing streak.

Top matches to watch in the Bundesliga: Dec. 14-15, 2021

Stuttgart vs Bayern München: The Bundesliga resumes action this midweek, with Stuttgart vs Bayern München kicking things off on Tuesday. The league leaders will visit a Schwaben that have caught some form, going three games unbeaten – two of which ended in victory. Unfortunately, the Bavarians are currently on a five-game winning streak, having secured confidence-boosting triumphs—not that they needed it—over Dortmund and Barcelona recently. Do not miss this tie.

Borussia M'gladbach vs Eintracht Frankfurt: These are two German heavyweights that sit lower down the table than expected. The home side are in 13th, having recently been thrashed by RB Leipzig, and are thus in need of a bounce. Frankfurt, on the other hand, are in ninth but face a stiff race to qualify for Europe. The visitors recently came back from 2-0 down to beat Leverkusen 5-2 and should thus be high on confidence. Who will win this showdown? Tune in to find out.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Hoffenheim: Despite going 2-0 up against Frankfurt thanks to a Schick brace, Die Werkself were beaten 5-2 over the weekend. Leverkusen remain in third; however, the competition are closing in. Hoffenheim, who are their midweek opponents, are only a point behind in fourth. Given that the visitors are on a four-game winning streak, Sebastian Hoeneß's men will fancy their odds of winning and leapfrogging Wirtz and Co. in the standings.
