Today's UEFA Champions League draw quickly went from an exciting affair to an absolutely farcical situation as European football's governing body were forced to redo everything.
Initially, PSG drew Man United in the round of 16 as Lionel Messi was pitted against Cristiano Ronaldo in a highly-anticipated fixture. However, accusations of wrongdoing – and in the eyes of some, corruption – came flying as an error was swiftly spotted.
Man United were first mistakenly drawn against Villarreal, forcing UEFA chief Giorgio Marchetti to intervene in order to correct this issue. After that, the Red Devils were then omitted from being drawn against Atletico Madrid, which was another error.
As this conversation began to blow up, UEFA declared the initial draw null and void, blaming the blunder on "a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other". A complete redo of the draw was thus announced.
However, this move did not go down well in the Real Madrid camp. Los Blancos, who got Benfica in the first attempt, argued that the errors began after they were drawn against the Portuguese giants and felt that a complete redo was not necessary.

Real Madrid consider the re-do of the draw as a scandal, given that the Benfica vs. Real tie was done before any of the mistakes.

Things got worse for the Spanish giants as take two of the UEFA Champions League draw saw them get PSG, a far more dangerous side than Benfica. It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will contest this decision any further, but this matters not to the fans, as the excitement over the Les Parisiens vs Los Merengues showdown is already growing.

Not only will this fixture see Messi return to Spain, but it will also see Sergio Ramos return to Santiago Bernabeu in an opposition jersey for the first time since the iconic defender left Real Madrid. Additionally, since this game will take place days after the transfer window closes, Kylian Mbappe could enter this tie having already reached a pre-contract agreement with Ancelotti's side.

As for Man United, they dodged one bullet but got struck by another as the Red Devils were pitted against Atletico Madrid. Fortunately for the Premier League giants, Cristiano Ronaldo boasts an outstanding record against Simeone's side and will thus look to inspire his side to victory.
Elsewhere, Liverpool, who are one of the favorites for the title, will face Inter Milan in the next round while Guardiola's Man City side will face defending Portuguese champions Sporting CP. Here are the UEFA Champions League round of 16 fixtures in full.
