Les Bleus went on a massive rampage in Saturday night's group clash.

France ticked all the right boxes on Saturday as they booked a place at Qatar 2022 in an exhilarating fashion against Kazakhstan. Les Bleus staged a massacre at Parc des Prince in the night's encounter, scoring eight unanswered goals to secure their status as winners of Group D ahead of the final round of matches.

It was somewhat a one-man show, with Kylian Mbappe alone hitting four goals to take his tally for his last two appearances to six. Within the first half-hour, the French starlet scored with a controlled volley,  tapped home an open goal with a Kingsley Coman assist, before completing the trilogy with a powerful header from another Coman pass. His rumored future club teammates and strike partner Karim Benzema then took over the mantle, scoring a brace in the second half to reintroduce himself to his audiences.

Adrien Rabiot scored a header while Antoine Griezmann also converted a penalty to extend the goal margin to seven.  Mbappe subsequently rounded off the evening by making good use of Moussa Diaby's faulty through-ball to score yet another goal. With the result, France currently leads the Group D table with 15 points from seven outings, and will take on play-off chasing Finland in their final game of the campaign.

Here are all the important milestones attained by France as a result of their big win:

  • Kylian Mbappé is the first player to score four or more goals with France since Just Fontaine in June 1958 against West Germany (also four).

  • Karim Benzema scored his 34th and 35th goals with the France team, equaling and then overtaking David Trezeguet as the fifth top scorer in the history of the Blues.

  • Kylian Mbappé has scored 22 goals with the French National team at 22 years and 10 months old, at least three years younger than any other player.

  • France is undefeated in its last 26 competitive matches (17 wins, 8 draws). The record is only bettered by the 27-game unbeaten run they managed between September 1994 and March 1999.
