Leverkusen’s Europa League campaign has not gotten off to the start they would have liked.
On Match-day One, Bayer Leverkusen took on Metalist Kharkiv, a tie which the Kharkiv faithful looked upon as a David vs. Goliath clash. Leverkusen’s form has been patchy this season and Kharkiv managed to wrestle a point away somehow in a 0-0 draw.

Bayer 04 lies second in the table due to inferior goal difference. They will play Rapid Wien, the side fourth in their group and yet to collect a point. Both teams are coming into this one following disappointing league results. Rapid Wien lost the derby to Austria Wien. Leverkusen drew yet again.

Leverkusen lies fifth in the Bundesliga table with twelve points to their name. Their high ranking is more down to the ineptitude of others than their good play. Leverkusen has been very good to watch this season as the attack has turned up for most matches and dazzled. A plethora of missed chances in each match has left fans frustrated.

Two weeks ago, on match-day seven, they drew a match they could have won twice over against Stuttgart 2-2. They followed this up with a 2-2 draw against Mainz. They also drew against Borussia Mönchengladbach this campaign after squandering a late penalty in the game. That match should have been won too.

In their last Europa League match, they made amends for the 0-0 draw against Kharkiv. They beat Rosenborg 0-1 thanks to a strike from a player who has been in excellent form this season, Stefan Kiessling. Kiessling might get called up for his country soon if he keeps up his good performances.

Kharkiv defeated Rapid in their last Europe League encounter 2-0. Wien has gotten into a habit of picking up red cards this season. A man was sent off from their side in each of the last two matches leaving them fighting for scraps with ten players.

Leverkusen should win this; they will be looking to head to the top of the table. However, nobody can predict how Leverkusen will play on a given day.

Prediction: Wien 1-2 Leverkusen
