This Week in Women’s Football: NWSL Playoffs, Liga MX Femenil, ATA Football weekend lineup

This week in women’s football will see the NWSL Playoffs quarterfinals, Liga MX Femenil games televised/streamed in the USA and ATA Football screen six club games from four top-flight European leagues.

How to watch NWSL Playoffs quarterfinals

Fans around the world will enjoy the NWSL’s expanded playoff format for the first time, with six teams qualifying instead of four in prior years. 

The top two sides – Portland Thorns and OL Reign – earned a bye straight into the semifinals. On the other hand, the other four sides - Washington Spirit, Chicago Red Stars, Gotham FC and North Carolina Courage – will participate in the first playoffs round.

The first-round playoff games will unfold on Sunday, Nov. 7. The Chicago Red Stars will host NJ/NY Gotham FC at Toyota Stadium at 3 p.m. ET, and the Washington Spirit will host the North Carolina Courage at Audi Field at 5:30 p.m. ET.

Six games on ATA Football this weekend

ATA Football will live stream six women’s club games from four European leagues, including the FA WSL, Frauen-Bundesliga, Primera Division and Serie A Women. The matches will take place from Friday, Nov. 5, through Sunday, Nov. 8.

Serie A Women

One Serie A match between league-leaders Juventus and fifth-place Sampdoria will unfold on Friday, Nov. 5, at 9:30 a.m. ET. La Vecchia Signora will look to keep title-challengers Sassuolo, who are just three points away from Juve, at bay.

Frauen-Bundesliga

There is a three-way tie for first place so far in the 2021-22 Frauen-Bundesliga season, involving Bayern Munich, Bayern Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt. Two of those teams will be featured on ATA Football’s weekend lineup.

Frankfurt will face VfL Wolfsburg, who are just three points behind the three league leaders, on Friday, Nov 5, at 2:15 p.m. ET. The game will be an opportunity for the She-Wolves to overtake Frankfurt and edge closer to first place. 

On the other hand, Frauen-Bundesliga reigning champions Bayern will face mid-table opponent SGS Essen on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 8 a.m. ET.

Primera Division

Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano Will go head-to-head on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 7 a.m. ET. Both sides will look for a win that would help them exit the bottom half of the table.

FA WSL

The FA Women’s Super League is back in action after the international break. Third-place Tottenham Hotspur will face off against fourth-place Manchester United on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 7:15 a.m. ET. Later, league-leaders Arsenal will take on London rivals West Ham United at 1:45 p.m. ET.
