Les Parisiens were dealt a blow in their pursuit of early progression after picking up a disappointing draw in Germany.

Paris Saint-Germain suffered a calamitous end in Wednesday night's Champions League group stage encounter with RB Leipzig to put their chances of securing a favorable draw in the knockout stage in a balance once more. In the absence of Lionel Messi, the Ligue outfit were denied a n with a late penalty they conceded handing the host the chance to convert and secure their first point of the campaign.

A pacy first half was followed by a rather ambling second and given PSG's recent struggles against RB Leipzig, it was not surprising that things turned out the way they did. Indeed, the narrative could have been different had Die Roten Bullen been more clinical having had goalscoring chances being aplenty. Having opened the scoring through Christian Nkunku in the eighth minute, Jesse Marsch's men passed on the opportunity to take a commanding two-goal lead after Andre Silva had a spot-kick saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma four minutes later.

PSG where the brought back into the game with Georgino Wijnaldum getting on Mbappe's cross to grab the leveler in the 21st minute. The Dutchman subsequently doubled his side's advantage in the 39th minute after marginally evading an offside trap and turning home a headed pass by Marquinhos.

The tale was rather bland in the second half after Pochettino's side adopted a rather pragmatic approach. However, it was RB Leipzig who had the last laugh after Christopher Nkunku attracted their second penalty of the night following a foul by Nuno Mendes. A brief check by VAR confirmed the legitimacy of the infringement which was subsequently converted by Hungarian sensation Dominik Szoboszlai in the second minute of additional time.
