While Los Blancos claimed a huge win at Camp Nou, the current league leaders kept the No.1 place after a late draw against Atlético

The tenth week of action in La Liga left quite a few things to discuss, especially after the game where Real Madrid defeated Barcelona in the most recent edition of El Clásico. Los Blancos' victory earned themselves several newspaper covers across the globe, but some of their rivals also deserve to have their deeds discussed.

For example, keeping under consideration what Real Sociedad did against Atlético is worthy of praise, as the Txuri-urdin kept the top spot in La Liga after their draw against Atlético. One more team that can be worth of praise is Sevilla, who claimed a 5-3 win over Levante with five different players scoring a goal for Julen Lopetegui's men. Last, but not least, Real Betis also claimed three points in a game where they saw a two-goal lead slip away beore eventually scoring the game-winning goal thanks to Willian José.

There were more matches we could discuss, but it is time to take a look at the main talking points after this weekend and right before the midweek games set to take place and the rest of the matches scheduled for next weekend.

Who are the top five La Liga teams after Matchday 10?

As mentioned before, Real Sociedad are till one point ahead of Real Madrid and Sevilla. The tiebreaker between Los Blancos and Los Hispalenses is won by Real Madrid, since they have a +13 in their goal difference. Sunday's draw at home left Atlético in fourth place with eighteen points, while Betis are now fifth with eighteen points to their name as well. Please keep in mind that Real Madrid, Sevilla, and Atlético all have a game in hand, which means that they have a slight edge over Real Sociedad in the event of a win for any of them.

La Liga top 3 scorers

Karim Benzema was not able to score during El Clásico, but that was not necessary to keep his lead at the top of the goalscoring charts. Mikel Oyarzabal missed this weekend's game due to an injury, giving way for Luis Suárez to complete the podium after his penalty kick goal against the Txuri-urdin at the Wanda Metropolitano.

La Liga – Top headlines

  • Real Madrid set El Clásico record by extending unbeaten run vs Barcelona - The Spanish capital giants claimed a 2-1 win to give coach Ancelotti his first-ever victory at Camp Nou, and while doing so, they matched a record that had stood for over 56 years. Los Merengues are on a five-game streak without a loss against Los Culés, the largest for them since the 1964-65 campaign, and the most productive for Los Blancos with four wins during the run. More details on that here.

  • Koeman enters Barcelona record books with unflattering milestone - While Real Madrid fans boasted about their win, Blaugrana fans bashed Ronald Koeman and his side for one more loss against their bitter rivals. Now, Koeman has gone down in history as the only coach in Barcelona history to lose his first three Clásicos in over 70 years, and the only one to do so since Patrick O'Connell during the league's early seasons (1935-1940).

  • Atlético cement reputation as comeback kings in 2021- The defending champions have shown fans their desire to win points even if they have been losing at certain point of the game. After this week's draw, Los Colchoneros won their 25th point from a losing position in 2021, while also earning eight points after conceding the first goal of their games.

Top matches to watch in La Liga on October 26-Nov.1, 2021

Rayo Vallecano vs Barcelona: It will be a game where Los Blaugranas will travel to Madrid with the need of a win after what happened in El Clásico. Unfortunately, this might be easier said than done for Los Culés, as they will face a team that has won five games this season and has found the net 17 times in ten matches.

Real Madrid vs Osasuna: Los Merengues want to recover the top spot of the competition, but Osasuna's season has been quite impressive after ten games. Los Rojillos are sixth after ten weeks of action, and their kind of football could very well give Ancelotti's men a bit of a headache in this midweek game.

Elche vs Real Madrid:  Los Blancos will travel to face Elche after their midweek game against Osasuna still trying to defend their second place (or first if things go their way vs Osasuna). The hosts, who will have played against Alavés by the time they face Ancelotti's men, will be looking to add one more win to their record in what has been a slow start of the season, with two victories in ten games.

Sevilla vs Osasuna: Los Hispalenses will be traveling to Mallorca this Wednesday, but the big game for them this week will be the one against Osasuna, who will just have faced Real Madrid. It will be a clash between two of the top six teams in the league, which should make it quite fun to watch.

Atlético Madrid vs Real Betis: The defending champions are set to face one of the most consistent teams in the league to put an end to their week's activity. Simeone and Co. have had to fight for every point in almost all games, and given Betis' current run (four wins in five games), it seems that this game will be one of those that will be decided in the final moments.
