Thanks to their Carling Cup triumph under Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool stand a chance of playing in Europe this upcoming season. Can the club reach higher standards?
Finally, the time has come for Brendan Rodgers to experience his first ever competitive match as Liverpool coach. The ex-Swansea boss faces a tricky challenge in the form of Belarus domestic cup winners FC Gomel. Meanwhile, Liverpool look to participate in the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League.

"Maybe over the history of the club, this will not be one of the most glamorous games," coach Brendan Rodgers told the press before adding:

"But, for me, it will mean everything. For me and the players, it won't be taken lightly."

Rodgers’ roster for this Third Round qualifier excludes the likes of Craig Bellamy, Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez and partner Andy Carroll. The latter has been declared unfit due to a groin injury but speculations in the media suggest otherwise.

It is believed that Andy Carroll could very well be on his way to Newcastle United or West Ham United as the 2012 summer transfer market remains very busy.

Gomel vs Liverpool airs live on Setanta-i Australia and Setanta Sports Australia tonight.

In UK, viewers can watch this UEFA Europa League Third Round qualifier on Setanta Sports 1 and Premier Sports. In USA, FOX Soccer Channel is going to assure the live broadcast of this fixture.
