Following a sluggish start to World Cup qualification, the United States men's national team has risen to the top of the Concacaf Octagonal group after four matchdays. Gregg Berhalter's team looks set to make it a third time lucky after victories away to Honduras and at home to Jamaica. However, a difficult away test awaits them as they travel to fourth-place Panama for their sixth qualifying match.
Against the Reggae Boyz, the USMNT's youthful set-up delivered the goods, registering a 2-0 win to extend their unbeaten run to 13 across all competitions. Trips to Panama have proven to be tough, but a win on Sunday could do could very much increase the qualification chances of the Stars and Stripes. Considering the fact that they have won three of their last four games against Los Canaleros by three or more goals, they should be able to put together another fine performance to add to their bid.
The hosts themselves will have their eyes set on securing a favorable response after suferring a surprise 1-0 defeat to El Salvador at the Octagon. Their position on the chart was affected as a result, with Thomas Christiansen's men dropping to fourth position. With the campaign reaching its business end, another slump could very much affect the qualification chances of the host.
Against the USMNT, they will be eager to seek vindication after falling to a heavy 6-2 defeat when they met in a friendly played in 2020.
