Esteban Granero is ready to fight for more playing time at Real Madrid despite the possible arrival of Luka Modric from Tottenham Hotspur.
“Improving the squad every season is complicated. They will be working hard for it, and we are always bringing in good footballers,” Granero told AS on Sunday.

“I don't know whether it will be him [Luka Modric], someone else or nobody, but we will always welcome players that improve Real Madrid with open arms.”

Meanwhile, the truth remains that the club’s influx of stars has left the Spanish midfielder struggling to excel at the Santiago Bernabeu. Since leaving Getafe at the end of the 2008/09 season, the 25-year-old has never played over 36 matches in all competitions a season.

Esteban Granero is yet to make his 100th appearance for Los Blancos after three years. However, he remains hopeful of finally getting a starring role at Real Madrid.

“I haven't thought about leaving and I have not thought about having the same role as last season. I want to have more importance, as all players do,” Granero declared.

“Having a greater role does not mean changing team. It can be done here and I will train hard. I hope to carve out a niche for myself. I have matured a lot over the last year.”

Esteban Granero has never played for the Spanish national team at the senior level. The 25-year-old midfielder lives in the shadow of other Spanish heroes such as Andres Iniesta of Barcelona or club mate Xabi Alonso.

Esteban Granero might be offered the chance to impress Jose Mourinho during Real Madrid's 2012 World Football Challenge campaign in August.
